Yankees Game #8

Jeter led off the bottom of the first with his 3,100th hit. The first inning was scoreless however and the Angels got on the board first with a second inning homer barely fair by Chris Ianetta to score Vernon Wells, 2-0. Aybar struck out to end the inning. In the bottom of the second, Curtis Granderson flew out to right-center field. Andruw Jones flew out to center thanks to Borgous's speed. Russell Martin walked and Eduardo Núñez popped out to shortstop to end the inning.

In the third, Kendrick singled and scored on a Pujols double. Morales flied out and Torii Hunter struck out. Alberto Callaspo walked and Vernon Wells popped out to Canó to end the inning.

Jeter led off the bottom of the inning by grounding to second and Nick Swisher lined to third. Robinson Canó struck out to end the inning.

Chris Ianetta led off the fourth with a walk and Borgous struck out. Aybar hit a single on an error by Tex and Ianetta went to second. Howie Kendrick launched a 3-run homer to put the Angels ahead 6-0 and knock Hughes out.

David Phelps came on and retired the next two hitters.

A-Rod led off the bottom of the inning with a groundout and Teixeira followed with a single on an error by Kendrick. Granderson walked and Andruw Jones dropped a ball up the third base line and was thrown out. Russell Martin flew out to right field to end the inning.

In the sixth, Torii Hunter struck out, Callaspo struck out, and Vernon Wells drilled a home run to left field like his old self. 7-0 Angels. (This is when I realized the game was over).

Ianetta walked and Borjous struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Núñez singled and Jeter hit a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Nick Swisher came up and flew out, and Robinson Canó singled to score Nuny and FINALLY put the Yankees on the board, 7-1 Angels. A-Rod grounded out to advance the runners and Mark Teixeira choked in the clutch once again to end the inning.

Aybar popped out to begin the sixth and Howie Kendrick and Pujols flew out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth and seventh just prevented another disappointing loss by an underachieving team. Neither team scored in the rest of the game.
