Yankees Game #5

The Yankees began the game on a high note when Derek Jeter homered to lead off. 1-0. However, JJ Hardy countered with a homer to tie the game. Markaikis doubled and scored on a wild pitch by Failing Fred. 2-1 O's.

Jeter rounds third after his leadoff solo home run.

After the erratic first inning, the game remained at 2-1 until the fourth when former Yankee Nick Johnson hit a ground out to score Adam Jones. 3-1 Baltimore.

The Yanks went down scoreless but the O's scored in the fifth when Failing Fred's wild pitch allowed Robert Andino to score. 4-1 O's.

In the sixth, Andruw Jones hit a sacrifice fly to score CanĂ³ before Garnderson singled and Russell Martin hit a ground ball, but was safe on an error by Mark Reynolds, which allowed Mark Teixeira to score. Curtis Granderson was at second when Brett Gardner singled to score Grandy and tie the game at 4 apiece.

Tha Yankees went scoreless in the seventh, and David Phelps came on to strike out the side in the bottom of the inning.

Former Yankee Luis Ayala came on to pitch the eighth and promptly got Curtis Granderson to ground out, and Raul Ibanez recorded a base hit pinch hitting for Andruw Jones. Russell Martin worked a full count before eventually striking out, but Ibanez, (who is quickly becoming one of my favorite players), stole second base on the play. Brett Gardner then struck out to end the inning and kill the rally.

David Robertson came on to pitch the eighth and struck out the first batter he faced. He worked a full count on Adam Jones before walking him, and he then stole second. Matt Weiters popped up to second and that ended the inning.

Derek Jeter led off the top of the ninth with a base hit through the middle of the Orioles infield, and Nick Swisher followed by striking out. Cano grounded out and A-Rod popped up to end the inning.

Boone Logan came on to pitch the ninth inning, and Nolan Reimold came on to hit for Nick Johnson. Reimold singled to start the inning and Cory Wade replaced Logan. Mark Reynolds popped up to second, and Chris Davis singled to bring up Robert Andino, who hit a ground ball back to Wade, who wisely went for the runner at second.

With the winning run 90 feet away and two outs, Cory Wade walked Endy Chavez on four pitches and took their chances with J.J. Hardy instead. Bases loaded, game tied at four, in the bottom of the ninth, and then...

Cory Wade induced a pop up to short to end the inning.

In the tenth inning, Mark Teixeira recorded an out, and Curtis Granderson struck out on a half-swing. Raul Ibanez came up and worked a full count before grounding out to first base to end the inning.

Cory Wade pitched the bottom of the tenth and got Markakis out, then hit Adam Jones to put the winning run on base. Wade then struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Pedro Strop came on to pitch the eleventh inning and walked Russell Martin, who was replaced by pinch runner Eduardo Nunez. Brett Gardner laid down a sacrifice drag bunt to move Nuny to second. However, Derek Jeter an Nick Swisher killed the rally by both recording outs.

Chris Stewart came on to catch for Martin and Cory Wade remained in the game in the bottom of the eleventh. Reynolds tapped a grounder and Martin threw him out at first. Girardi then handed the ball to lefty Clay Rapada.

Chris Davis grounded to short and Robert Andino struck out to end the inning.

In the twelfth inning, Robinson Cano led off with a double. A-Rod then grounded to second, moving Cano to third base with one out. Mark Reynolds misplayed a Teixeira pop up, but Mark hit a chopper and was thrown out a second. Down to their last out, the Orioles walked Granderson to bring up Raul Ibanez with the winning run at third base. Ibanez responded to that challenge by worked an RBI ground rule double to take a 5-4 lead!

Mariano Rivera came on to pitch the bottom of the twelfth inning and struck out Endy Chavez, enduced a pop up to J.J. Hardy, and then struck out Nick Markakis to end the game.

Ballgame over, Yankees win, THEEEEEEEEEEEE Yankees win!!!!!
