Yankees Game #7

Jorge Posada threw out the first pitch to open the first home opener without Posada since 1996.

Erik Aybar led off with a single under Jeter's glove, and later stole second on a missed swipe tag. Bobby Abreu flew out to center, and Albert Pujols, newly acquired by the Angels, skied a pop up to left field. Kendrys Morales worked a tough at-bat but ended up striking out on a drop third strike to end the inning.

Derek Jeter broke in Yankee Stadium 2012 with a strikeout and Curtis Granderson struck out on a check swing. Alex Rodríguez drilled a long single to left-center field. A-Rod stole second and Robinson Canó walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Mark Teixeira walked to load the bases. Nick Swisher drilled a double to right field and just like that the Yankees were ahead 3-0 in the first!!!! Raúl Ibañez flew out to center to end the inning.

The Angels came up in the second inning already trailing. Mark Trumbo walked on four pitches and Vernon Wells struck out. Maicer Izturis hit into a double play (third, second, first) to end the inning.

Russell Martin singled to start the bottom of the second, and advanced to second on Earvin Santana's wild pitch, then Martin stole third on a phantom (not) hit-by-pitch Gardner was walked and Gardner was picked off leaning even though he was safe. Jeter grounded out, and Granderson struck out on a drop third strike to end the inning.

In the third, Chris Ianetta was punched, Peter Borjuos struck out swinging, and Erik Aybar bunted up third for a base hit despite being out of the batters box. Bobby Abreu flew out to left to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, A-Rod lifted a BOMB to centerfield to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead., his 630th career home run, tying future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr. Robbie Canó chopped one to first for an out, and Tex lifted a blooper to Erik Aybar. Nick Swisher was punched out to end the inning.

In the fourth inning, Albert Pujols lined a single through the infield. Abreu popped to third base and Mark Trumbo grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

Raul Ibañez and Russell Martin both grounded to third and Brett Gardner grounded out to end the inning.

In the fifth, Vernon Wells popped to shortstop and Maicer Izturis worked a walk. Chris Ianette flew out to Swisher in right field before Bourjous singled. Erik Aybar grounded out to second to end the inning.

Derek Jeter flew out to right field and Curtis Granderson homered to right field to extend the Yankees' lead to 5-0. A-Rod lined a single into centerfield and Canó hit a chopper which led to A-Rod being thrown out at second. Mark Teixeira flew out to deep centerfield to end the inning.

The sixth inning began with a Bobby Abreu lined to second. Canó made a SPECTACULAR play to throw him out at first base. Albert Pujols was punched out on a somewhat inside pitch. Kendrys Morales popped out to left field to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Nick Swisher flew out to left-center field, Raúl Ibañez fouled a ball into Chris Ianetta's glove for the second out. Russell Martin grounded to shortstop to end the inning.

In the seventh, Mark Trumbo grounded to third, Vernon Wells struck out, and Maicer Izturis grounded to first to end the inning.

The bottom of the seventh, former Met Jason Isringhausen came on and promptly lined to left on a sliding catch by Vernon. Jeter doubled to right field and Curtis Granderson struck out swinging and A-Rod grounded back to Izzy to end the inning.

The eighth inning began with a groundout by Ianetta and another groundout by Peter Borjous. Erick Aybar lined to center and end the inning.

David Carpenter came on to make his major league debut, and Robinson Canó led off the eighth with a ground out to Izturis. Mark Teixeira followed with a grounder to first and Swisher lined a bloop single out to right field, and Raúl Ibañez grounded to second to end the inning.

Hiroki came on to pitch the ninth and go for the complete game shutout. He allowed a hit to lead off the inning, and was quickly pulled for D-Rob.

Robertson came on and promptly got Pujols to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. With two outs, Kendrys Morales struck out to end the game.

Ballgame over, Yankees win, THEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!

Today, Hiroki Kuroda is undoubtedly MY player of the game!
