The End of An Era
Former New York Jets QB Mark Brunell has announced his retirement from the NFL after 19 seasons.
Brunell threw for 32,072 yards and 184 touchdowns, while also rushing for 2,421 yards and 15 scores over 191 games his career.
He spent two seasons with the New York Jets and played in a total of 18 games as both a quarterback and a holder.
Brunell played two games as a quarterback in 2010 where he backed up Mark Sanchez, both against the Buffalo Bills.
During the 2009-2010 season, he served as backup quarterback and holder for the Super Bowl XLV Champion New Orleans Saints, his only career championship.
I truly liked Brunell as a backup to Sanchez, however, with the Jets salary cap constraints the acquisition of Tim Tebow, Brunell had no role in New York, and, apparently, nowhere else either.
Brunell reacts to Nick Folk's game-winning field goal in the 2011 AFC Wild Card Gameagainst the Colts.
I wish him all the best in retirement.
