The Mets tried a baserunning play that resulted in a run in the second and took a 1-0 lead. The Padres had four straight hits and led 4-1. Venebal had an RBI double, 5-1. The Mets scored two in the fifth on a Murphy homer, 6-3. The Padres scored in the sixth, 7-3. The eventually won 11-6.
