Grounded and Pounded: A Season In Review

The New York Jets are not making the playoffs because of a loss to the Miami Dolphins and now must make major decisions.

The Jets offense was AWFUL in 2011, and ultimately was their main demise. I will now list off the free agents:

Bryan Thomas
Sione Pouha
Jim Leonhard
LT
Rob Turner
Kevin O'Connell
Mark Brunell
Plaxico Burress
Nick Folk
Brodney Pool
Donald Strickland
Marquice Cole
Jamaal Westerman
Patrick Turner
Aaron Maybin
Matthew Mulligan
Ellis Lankster
Martin Tevaseu

Thomas, Pouha, Folk, Westerman, Turner, and Maybin will probably be back on short-tern deals. The others will not be back.

I see Sanchez beginning the season but if Greg McElroy is healthy he can challenge for the starter job if Sanchez is struggling as he did in 2011.

However, the coaching staff needs a shakeup.

I think that Rex Ryan is a great coach but some of his personnel need to leave.

Schotty will not return as OC, Mike Pettine's job is certainly not safe, Bill Callahan will likely go, Matt Cavanaugh should go, and Anthony Lynn's job is in jeopardy with the Jets lack of a running game in 2011.

Now, I could easily see Rex Ryan serving duly as head coach and D-Coordinator but it is not guaranteed.

The Jets major needs (in addition to quarterback), include guards, a tackle, a running back or two, and some new coordinators.

The Jets need a shakeup, and if Rex Ryan intends to make a Super Bowl run, they will make them.
