Beat The Mets

The New York Mets began the game by surrendering a homer to Ian Desmond. 1-0 Nats.

The next innings were scoreless before a Jayson Werth RBI single to score Ryan Zimmerman in the sixth. 2-0 Nats.

Then they fell apart, Bernadina hit a grounder misplayed by Daniel Murphy which allowed Werth to score. They scored three runs to take a 5-1 lead.

The Mets threatened in the seventh with two men on and one out, knocking starter Ross Detweiler out of the game, but Josh Thole grounded out. With runners on first and third, Ike Davis came on to pinch hit and struck out.

Miguel Batista came on in the eigth and recorded one out before loading the bases. The Nats scored again off of Batista. 6-1 Nationals before Adam LaRoche flied out to center field to end the inning.

Tyler Clippard came on to pitch the eighth for the Nationals. Ruben Tejada walked and Ronny Cedeno hit an RBI double, 6-2 Mets with NO OUTS in the bottom of the eighth! Daniel Murphy popped out and Jason Bay struck out, thus putting the Mets in a possible rally-killing situation. Lucas Duda came up and hit a check-swing grounder back to Clippard to end the inning.

Jayson Werth led off the ninth with a base hit, his fourth of the night, and Daniel Murphy botched another double play on a ball hit by Xavier Nady. Bernadina struck out and Wilson Ramos grounded out to shortstop to end the ninth.

The New York Mets came up in the bottom of the ninth against former Phillies nemesis Brad Lidge. Justin Turner led off with a strikeout and Captain Kirk (whose last name I cannot spell and so he will be known from hereon out as Captain Kirk), lined out after hitting Lidge with the pitch. Down to their last out, Josh Thole singled to center to bring up Mike Baxter as a pinch hitter. Working a full count, he grounded out to end the game and give the Mets their first loss of the season.

The Mets looked tired and worn out the entire game and would benefit from an off day and/or David Wright's return. Preferably both.
